A Forty-three-Year Fugitive from Justice

I heard an interesting debate on the radio yesterday morning during my commute to work. It was about an elderly man who was arrested recently.

About fifty years ago, Willie Parker committed armed robbery. He was apprehended, tried, and summarily sentenced to 40 years in prison. Willie served just ten of those years when he decided to walk off of a work detail and escape. For years he evaded the law and was not found until this past week.

Authorities apprehended the 81-year-old Willie Parker, on charges of armed robbery that he committed fifty years ago. This man now has severe medical problems including diabetes, a heart problem, hepatitis, and a recent stroke. He has not to anyone's knowledge been a threat to society in any way since his escape and some even argue that he never actually shot anyone during his armed robbery.

His case has been sent before a judge to decide whether or not he should be sentenced to serve the rest of his time in prison. There are a lot of people crying out for his release. After all, why should tax-payer money go to fund the incarceration of someone who is very much not a threat to society in any way? His past forty-years and his health both attest to that fact. Wouldn't it be a waste of money for us to lock him back up? It would make a lot of sense to just let him go free.

Of course, if you don't send him back to prison, you will be sending a message to the rest of the criminals in America that it is alright to escape from prison as long as you can evade the police for a while. It would also mean that justice is dependent on the health of the criminal and the financial ramifications rather than being determined by the nature of the crime.

Should Willie Parker be locked up or sent home? You tell me.

Anti-Racist Racism

I recently heard some people on the radio discussing politics (as usual), and although the subject is already so old in light of the fact that they started campaigning two years before the election, I did hear one thing that really caught my ear. I heard several liberals make the statement that they were considering voting for Hilary Clinton just because she was a woman or that they were considering voting for Obama just because he was black. Whoa!

Clinton and ObamaThese liberals are the same people who rage the most against racism and against sexism. In fact, they will probably say that they are going to vote for these people for these reasons just because they are anti-racist. The truth is, however, that they are the ones who are being the most racist! Think about it!

If they are going to vote for someone based on their race or gender then it means that their candidates opponents are being voted against simply because of their race or gender. If you vote for Barak Obama for the sole reason that he is black, then you are voting against McCain or whoever just because they are white. That truly is racist! If you are voting for Sen. Clinton just because you think that it is time to see a woman in the white house, then you are voting against the opponent just because he is a male. This is sexist.

If you are all caught up in quotas and you believe that we should put these people into office just for the simple reason that they should have an opportunity based on their color or gender regardless of their qualifications, then you are a racist. I call this positive discrimination and it is just as wrong as negative discrimination.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
~ Martin Luther King Jr.

If you are not voting based on the issues but are rather voting based on the fact that your candidate is a certain color or gender then you are a racist or a sexist! Martin Luther King Jr. asked this nation to judge people based on the 'content of their character' and not 'by the color of their skin.' He did not ask for special treatment...he asked for equal treatment.

I am weighing the democratic candidates against the republican candidates based on the issues. I don't care if they are black, white, male or female. The only thing I care about is trying to figure out which candidate will represent me the most accurately politically. I am trying to figure out which candidate will stand for and defend the truths of the Word of God concerning government.

That's all I have to say on the matter!

Our Last Vestige Of Hope

The Bible is very clear in the book of Genesis that all those who support the nation of Israel will be blessed and rewarded for doing so. Any nation that opposes Israel, on the other hand, will be severely punished. I am pleased to find the Gov. Mike Huckabee is a staunch supporter of this tiny nation in the heart of the Middle East.

I sometimes wonder what it is the keeps God from removing his blessing from our nation. There are only two Biblical reasons that cause God to bless a nation. "Righteousness exalteth a nation," and supporting Israel. I do not believe that it is our 'righteousness' that is keeping God's blessing on us. America is now far from righteous...don't get me started! We can still, however, cling to our last vestige of hope. Our strong support of God's chosen nation of Israel! Consider these quotes from presidential hopeful, Mike Huckabee:
  • "I am a steadfast supporter of Israel, our staunch ally in the War on Terror, the only fully-functioning democracy in the Middle East, and our greatest friend in that region.
  • "The United States must remain true to its long-standing commitment to the Israeli people.
  • "As President, I will always ensure that Israel has access to the state-of-the-art weapons and technology she needs to defend herself from those who seek her annihilation.

"I've visited the Middle East extensively over the past thirty-five years, including nine trips to Israel. I salute and support Israel as our staunch ally in the War on Terror and our greatest friend in that region. As the only fully-functioning democracy in the Middle East, Israel occupies a unique position both geographically and geopolitically. Israel is an important partner in the spread of freedom and democracy throughout the Middle East and the world.

"The United States must remain true to its long-standing, bipartisan commitment to the Israelis. I will always ensure that Israel has access to the state-of-the-art weapons and technology she needs to defend herself from those who seek her annihilation."

My Faith is My Life!

I love the fact that this man can so boldly embrace his faith. I am tired of politicians who try to hide who they are religiously in order to gain a political seat. If a man's faith does not influence his decisions, either his faith means nothing to him or he is a liar. I cannot separate my faith in Christ from the rest of my life and I do not want to elect a man who does.

Hey friends, if you don't like Gov. Huckabee or if you espouse another candidate, make it known. Let this be a forum for civil debate. Keyword..."Civil." I want to hear and learn and grow in my understanding. Help me do that by letting me know of your differing opinions. Thanks in advance!

"The First Amendment requires that expressions of faith be neither prohibited nor preferred. We should not banish religion from the public square, but should guarantee access to all voices and views. We should share and debate our faith, but never seek to impose it. When discussing faith and politics, we should honor the "candid" in candidate - I have much more respect for an honest atheist than a disingenuous believer.

"My faith is my life - it defines me. My faith doesn't influence my decisions, it drives them. For example, when it comes to the environment, I believe in being a good steward of the earth. I don't separate my faith from my personal and professional lives.

"Real faith makes us humble and mindful, not of the faults of others, but of our own. It makes us less judgmental, as we see others with the same frailties we have. Faith gives us strength in the face of injustice and motivates us to do our best for "the least of us."

"Our nation was birthed in a spirit of faith - not a prescriptive one telling us whether to believe, but one acknowledging that a providence pervades our world."

Preserving Traditional Marriage

I have continued to be highly impressed with the stand that Gov. Mike Huckabee has taken against the promotion of homosexuality and homosexual rights. I am excited to see a candidate who does not waver or waffle on this issue.

In the second video clip you will see below, he is asked if he will accept the support of the log cabin republicans, or republicans that stand for homosexual rights. He doesn't even have to think about the answer. He pounces on it like a cat on a mouse and turns it into a positive stand for right!

I continue to find myself hopeful that we might actually have the possibility of an honest, Christian leader standing for the Christian principles that our nation was founded on as our next president.

"I support and have always supported passage of a federal constitutional amendment that defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman. As President, I will fight for passage of this amendment. My personal belief is that marriage is between one man and one woman, for life.

"No other candidate has supported traditional marriage more consistently and steadfastly than I have. While Massachusetts was allowing homosexuals to marry, I got a constitutional amendment passed in Arkansas in 2002 defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I got Arkansas to become only the third state to adopt "covenant" marriage. My wife Janet and I upgraded our vows on Valentine's Day, 2005. Today, many churches in Arkansas will perform only covenant marriages, so I'm hoping we'll see a decline in our divorce rates."

Mike Huckabee - Sanctity of Life

MikeHuckabee.com - I Like Mike!
I am extremely impressed with almost all of the issues that Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee stands for. I have decided to demonstrate my support for him by placing support banners in the sidebar and by promoting the principles that he stands on.

Each Monday, I will post information about this man in an effort to convince all of you that he is a worthy candidate for the presidency. The following is an excerpt from Mike Huckabee's website which identifies his strong, Biblical position on abortion. I strongly support him in this issue and I invite you to find out more!

"I support and have always supported passage of a constitutional amendment to protect the right to life. My convictions regarding the sanctity of life have always been clear and consistent, without equivocation or wavering. I believe that Roe v. Wade should be over-turned.

"I applaud the Supreme Court's recent decision in Gonzales v. Cathcart forbidding the gruesome practice of partial birth abortion. While I am optimistic that we are turning the tide in favor of life, we still have many battles ahead of us to protect those who cannot protect themselves, and so it is vital that we elect a pro-life President.

"I first became politically active because of abortion, when I helped pass Arkansas' Unborn Child Amendment, which requires the state to do whatever it legally can to protect life.

"As Governor, I did all I could to protect life. The many pro-life laws I got through my Democrat legislature are the accomplishments that give me the most pride and personal satisfaction.

"I am opposed to research on embryonic stem cells."
