I brought up how being a shepherd must be a rather routine job, not much happening with the sheep, ect. (In sharp contrast to the coming vision of angels).
This was when my "imagine the scene" plot backfired, and one particularly reflective fourth grade boy said "Yeah. They were probably all overweight and constipated."

(!!!)

(Let's not get too relevant, shall we?! :) )Jenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13847895291492003285noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32060719.post-48260814525982439082008-02-02T11:10:00.000-05:002008-02-02T11:10:00.000-05:00That's a really good point. I believe that it can truly help us understand what was going on and what God is telling us when we can picture it in our heads. Sometimes listening to the Bible can really help bring it all out in my mind as well.CindyMaehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13311068359744550595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32060719.post-26067323287563339842008-02-01T14:41:00.000-05:002008-02-01T14:41:00.000-05:00Thanks Bro. Too often we casually skim the pages and we only compare it to our modern cultural frame of reference rather than, like you say, considering the political and social history of that time period. If we do that then our observations of their lives and the mistakes that they made will be more appropriate and will be more well-formed observations.

Whenever you read the Word you ought to try to make it come to life as you read the literal account of real people who lived and breathed and dreamed and wished just like you and I.Nicholas Z.
